Political Ad Critique (non-bias) pt. 1
How annoying is it every 4 years to have your Facebook feed covered in political ads? Well, personally, I absolutely love it. Being a “Centrist,” I enjoy (or hate) ads from all campaigns, from every candidate. But this isn’t about anyone’s agenda; let’s talk content! Here, we will analyze imagery and copy and give the ad a score from 1–10 on how impactful they probably are.
“President Trump knows that Fake News Media will NEVER report accurately on his standings in the polls against Sleepy Joe.”
This is a classic tactic of instead of talking to you, the text presents itself as sitting next to you, as if looking at the same screen as you. As a Trump supporter you should agree with him and sit on the same side, like a friend, and hate the (fake news) media together. Also, continuing the pattern of name-calling his opponents.
“We want the truth, and we need to hear it directly from REAL Americans, like YOU.”
Now the ad begins to get more aggressive, more words in all caps, more demanding statements, “we want,” “we need,” “directly from.” Also, the wording continues the common thread of lies and truths, “fake news media,” “accurately,” “the truth,” “REAL Americans.”
The call-to-action now shows who is on the other side of the “REAL Americans.” The battle is between you and Sleepy Joe, big government socialist followers.
From an SEO perspective, they did an amazing job with using long-tailed keywords, especially in the final statement. But here is a list of every power word/phrase used.
- Fake News Media
- Report Accurately
- Sleepy Joe (x2)
- Big government
- Socialist followers

Content: 5/10, The creator of the copy knew what they were doing and used some fundamental schemes, but nothing punched you in the gut with it.
THE IMAGE. I have literally never in my life seen a more unprofessional image in a (supposedly) professional advertisement quite like this. Who approved this horrendous image to be used? Who? Why? How? What? There is no message it’s sending, it’s not applicable to the text, it doesn’t represent the campaign, it was lazy and childish and completely wrong…. that is all.
